Will Elizabeth Warren be the next Rick Santorum?

Progressive superhero Elizabeth Warren and hardcore conservative Rick Santorum have almost nothing in common other than representing the extreme factions of their respective parties. This situation begs the question: will Warren do to Hillary in 2016 what Santorum did to Romney in 2012? Will Warren primary Hillary, pushing the democratic favorite so far to the left in the primary that she will be unappealing in the general election? Lets hope so.

A recent article from POLITICO suggests that this doomsday scenario for the Democrats may not be too far fetched. Warren just wrote a book about her life/experiences in politics and POLITICO reports that at recent book signing events the Massachusetts Senator has been met with great enthusiasm from supporters begging her to run for President. They believe one President Clinton is enough and that America needs a name other than “Bush” or “Clinton” to occupy the White House. What makes Warren so attractive to her supporters is her populist anti-wall street beliefs and her faith in government to do protect the little guy. Meanwhile Clinton voted for the Iraq War and actually has a very cozy relationship with Wall Street. These two points are big red flags for liberal activists and hopefully will be Clinton’s demise in the primaries.

I say hopefully because I have faith that any Republican, be it an establishment candidate like Jeb Bush or a grassroots favorite like Rand Paul, can beat Warren and her far left views. This is no guarantee of course- Warren is no fool and the GOP has proven to be less than politically astute, but if Republicans play their cards rights they should be able to beat Warren easier than Clinton.

P.S.

I have mixed feelings about Warren. On some points she makes perfect sense. Of course fat cats shouldn’t get preferential treatment in our society. But where I differ from her is not in diagnosing a problem, but rather proposing a solution. She believes that more government will make things better, while I look at history and believe that more government will only increase the avenues of corruption that big business can drive down. Because of this belief I see Rand Paul and his true capitalist beliefs as better equipped to protect the middle class.
